Gibbonsdown & Court Communities First organised a jobs, training and volunteering fayre at the HUB on Thursday 8th April with over 20 agencies including Itec Training Genesis 2, Job Shop Extra, Conduit and Want 2 Work were in attendance. It was a great opportunity for local residents to access useful advice and information and talk to a wide range of agencies about employment and training opportunities. Communities First also promoted their many community groups including the Luncheon Club, Good Neighbour Scheme, Youth Forum and Allotment Group. Local volunteers from the groups were also at the fayre to discuss volunteering opportunities and encourage participation. New community group Grassroots were promoting their grass cutting services in Gibbonsdown. Flying Start and the Family Information Services also provided free children’s activities including face paining throughout the day. AM Jane Hutt, Rhodri Morgan, Labour Candidate Alana Davies and Councillor Chris Elmore also attended the Helping Hands Event. Molly Conway, Chair of the Gibbonsdown & Court Partnership Board was there to support the fayre and said ‘’Community events like this are essential for local residents to access information about getting back into employment, volunteering and training. The event also meets one of the Communities First Vision Framework criteria ‘’jobs, business and income generation’’ and it was an excellent day.’’ For more information about the fayre and any other Communities First activities please contact the Communities First office on 01446 732406.
