Financial Ombudsman Service
Message from Ian Woodman Financial Ombudsman Service

We are running a free training day for community and advice workers at the Conwy Business Centre on 3 February. This provides an opportunity for the consumer advice sector to learn more about the role of the Financial Ombudsman Service and the help it can provide to members of the public when disputes with financial services providers arise. In difficult economic times, many issues may arise for consumers where the free services of the ombudsman can assist.

Whilst the training days we run across the UK are generally well attended by Citizens Advice Bureaux and Trading Standards staff, they are also very relevant to many other agencies that offer free advice to the public. One of the challenges for us when we arrange the training days is to ensure everyone who might wish to attend knows that it is taking place. Any assistance you can provide in alerting your contacts and associates in the voluntary advice sector would be greatly appreciated. This might include CAB, Money Advice and the housing and age charities. However, as you know, there are a plethora of advice agencies where a better understanding of the Financial Ombudsman Service might be beneficial.

I am attaching a copy of the registration form (with additional details) that potential delegates must complete in advance. I am also attaching a copy of the template letter we use to inform potential attendees about the training day. Information is also available on our website at: -

We do not visit North Wales that often, so I am eager that as many agencies and organisations to which the training might be relevant know about the day as possible.
