Caia Park Annual Residents Awards
Caia Park Communities First has recognised and promoted the good work of the local residents through the successful Caia Park Annual Resident’s Awards ceremony. The Awards have recognised and highlighted the invaluable contribution made by ordinary residents with their extra-ordinary level of commitment to their neighbours and the community in general.
Complementing the Communities First Vision Framework: The project mainly supports the Environment Theme of the Vision Framework.
In 2009, awards were given out to the best Community Group, Community Project, Community Employee, Volunteer, Outstanding Learner, Youth, Community and Good Neighbour. An overall award was given to the Category Winner that the judges felt had made the most significant contribution to the community.
Nomination forms were distributed to all the homes in Caia Park through the Caia Park Communities First Community Newsletter, and additional copies were available from a wide range of premises around the local housing estate.
Invitations to the event were sent to all nominees, those who sent in nominations, local groups and organisations, local representatives including Local Councillors, Assembly Members and Members of Parliament, and residents who are members of various committees. The event was publicised in the local press and community notice-boards for anyone else interested in learning about the good work that has been delivered in Caia Park.
Over the years, the evening has become a success and a firm favourite on the calendar of the local community as it’s a simple but effective method of celebrating the amazing community spirit that exists in Caia Park. The awards recognise the invaluable contribution made by ordinary residents with their extra-ordinary level of commitment to their neighbours and the community in general.
The Annual Resident’s Awards has given a great deal of publicity to the community of Caia Park and to Caia Park Communities First which is involved in the social, economic and environmental regeneration of this deprived area. The event has made more people aware of Caia Park Communities First and its aims for the community which has helped them to engage more residents to take part in activities aimed at helping them to better achieve their goals.
Many residents were able to meet people from other areas of the estate who they would not normally have come into contact with and good working relationships and friendships have been formed. Caia Park has traditionally been sub-divided into several areas and where integration has previously been difficult. Events such as the Annual Residents Awards have played a part in breaking down some of these traditional barriers and help create community pride and spirit that covers the whole of Caia Park.
For a relatively small amount of money, Caia Park Communities First have been able to nurture the sense of pride these residents have in their area and to recognise the commitment they have in wanting to help their neighbours and their community.
